A clipper ship hit southern #Ontario on Saturday with another snowfall, as well as strong gusts of wind that create difficult conditions for traffic in the region, leading to the closure of some roads and numerous collisions.
Another snowfall made getting around southern Ontario difficult on Saturday thanks to a fast clipper.
The clipper system arrived in southern Ontario Saturday morning with a big bang. Since then, the worst of the main squall lines have moved east of the Greater #Toronto Area (GTA), prompting the ECCC to issue a rare snow squall warning for Toronto.
Whiteout is concentrated east of Kingston, Brockville and Cornwall along Highway 401. This results in dangerous driving conditions along the leading edge of the squall.
The Western Region Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is advising drivers that high winds and snow are making driving conditions worse across the region.
The east and west lanes of Highway 402 from Colonel Talbot to Curwood Road in Stratroy are closed due to poor visibility. Secondary roads in Huron County and South Bruce were also closed to ensure driver safety.
The amount of snowfall brings 5-10 cm of snow to central Ontario and along the shores of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay during Saturday. GTA picks up only a few centimeters from this system.
While we won\'t see a record amount of #snowfall , the #strongwinds accompanying this clipper more than make up for the lack of depth. Winds between 60 and 80 km/h will lead to periods of blizzards and drifts on Saturday afternoon, especially around Lake Huron and the east coast of Lake Ontario.
