Thousands of people were left homeless in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria, after devastating rains washed away their huts.

Many areas were flooded after heavy rains in Gauteng. In the south of Pretoria, the Glen Road Bridge has been reopened to traffic.

It was closed after two cars were swept away by flood water early Saturday morning.

Dozens of families in informal settlements in Mamelodi and parts of Ekurhuleni are homeless and need urgent help.
